On 7 March 1943, Capstan BS237 flown by Flight Sergeant Moore took off at Strauss Field, Northern Territory, together with one other aircraft and climbed to 25,000 feet. At that height, Flight Sergeant Moore called on his radio that he had a glycol leak and also advised the aircraft was overheating and that he would make a forced landing. The engine then failed and the aircraft was seen to dive at 0915 hours. It crashed six miles south of the Strauss Filed strip in bush country.
