At 2223 hours on the night of the 2 June 1944, Halifax MZ541 took off from RAF detailed to bomb rail yards at Trappe, France. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft was shot down by a night fighter and crashed at 0100 hours 1 km south east of Epernon (Eure-et-Loir). All the crew members were killed.
