Wellington Z8517 took off from Binbrook at 0053 hours on the night of 6/7 September 1942 to bomb Duisberg, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. It was later learned that the aircraft had been lost and all the crew members had been killed.
