On the night of 4 May 1943, Wellington R1242 took off from Moreton-in-Marsh, detailed for night flying training. The aircraft was reported to have overshot the runway and crashed at around 0215 hours, some three miles west north west of the airfield. Flight Sergeant Miller was killed and three crew members were injured.
