Mosquito MM423 took off from RAF Thorney Island at 0240 hours on the night of 7/8th August 1944, being part of a squadron force of 14 aircraft detailed to carry out night intruder operations and strike road and rail junctions in support of the Army in Northern France. MM423 failed to return from the mission and both the crew members were killed. Later enquiries by a Missing Research and Enquiry Unit including discussions with local inhabitants established that the aircraft was shot down by German flak early in 1944 on either the 6 or 7 August 1944. The name Miller was taken from one identity disc and evidence from the wreckage indicated a Mosquito aircraft and a piece of metal was stamped MM423.

The crew members of MM423 were:

Flight Sergeant Alfred Lister (1511919) (RAFVR) (Navigator)
Flight Sergeant Graeme Morrison Miller (422227) (Pilot)
