At 1854 hours on 30 December 1943, Wellington BK491 took off from RAF Little Horwood for a night flying training exercise. At 1855 hours the aircraft banked steeply and crashed at North End Farm near Thornborough, four miles or so north-west of the airfield. All four crew members were killed.
