At 0007 hours on the morning of 22 June 1943 Stirling EF366 took off from Oakington detailed to bomb Krefeld, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft was shot down by a night fighter and crashed near Hamout, Belgium. Two crew members were killed and the other five taken prisoner.
