On 11 August 1942 Kittyhawk A29-93 flown by Flying Officer McLeod was shot down at Milne Bay when attacking 8 to12 Japanese aircraft. On 12 April 1967 the wreck of the aircraft and Flying Officer McLeod’s remains were found in dense rainforest. Parts of the fuselage around the serial number of the aircraft were salvaged and are now on display at the RAAF Museum Point Cook VIC. Also lost in the general action were Flight Sergeant George Frederick Inkster (402292) in Kittyhawk A29-84 and Warrant Officer Francis Pentland Shelley (402408) in Kittyhawk A29-100.
