Brother of Flying Officer Hector Cairns McKenzie (400934)

At 1946 hours on the night of 29 September 1941 Wellington X9673 took off from Marham detailed to bomb Hamburg, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft was shot down by a night fighter and crashed at 0026 hours on the 30 September near the Hittfeldt railway station, 10 kms from Harburg, Germany. All the crew members were killed.
