On 6 August 1943, Leading Aircraftman McKay, a Flight Mechanic, and Leading Aircraftman William Charles McCann (56139), a Flight Rigger, were killed when a utility was returning to Deniliquin from a forced landing rescue, overturned at Echuca, Victoria. Others in the utility were injured.
