On the 5th May 1944, Master DL907 was detailed to carry out formation flying practice. After taking off from Sibson airfield and climbing to 3/400 feet, the engine lost power and eyewitnesses saw a burst of black smoke. The aircraft lost speed and turned left to fly back to the airfield, but it banked too steeply, the nose of the aircraft came up, it went on its back and crashed and Flight Sergeant McInnes, flying solo, was killed.
