On 14 August 1944, Kittyhawk AL189 took off from RAF Station Fayid on a non-operational day training exercise. The aircraft crashed when it was being brought in at too low a speed, causing it to stall, flick on its back, and dive into the ground, and Flight Sergeant McGregor was killed.
