At 1737 hours on the night of 4 November1944 Halifax LV771 took off from Lissett detailed to bomb Bochum, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft crashed at Watten, a small town 3 kms south east of Kavalaer. Five of the crew members were killed and two were taken prisoner.
