On 28 November 1944, Corporal McGlade, a Clerk General, drowned when he was washed into a flooded river. During the night, the Samboga River overflowed its banks and personnel living in tents near the river were instructed to before any danger arose. While endeavouring to remove two kit bags, Corporal McGlade lost his footing and fell into the river and he could not be saved by others due to the strong current.
