At 1353 hours on 4 April 1945, Wirraway aircraft A20-39 and A20-415 collided over Sandy Creek while practicing formation flying, killing Flight Sergeant McGee in the crash of A20-39. The pilot of A20-415 was Sergeant Stuart Beaumont McDowell (438604) who was uninjured and was later discharged from the RAAF on 6 June 1947 with the rank of Flying Officer.
