Pilot Officer McDaniel (an Observer) died of appendicitis at 19th General Hospital, Egypt, on 28 May 1941.

Pilot Officer McDaniel trained at 1 Air Observers’ School, Cootamundra NSW, 1 Bombing and Gunnery School, Evans Head NSW and 1 Air Navigation School, Parkes NSW. He embarked for overseas on 11 February 1941 and disembarked HMT 24 March 1941 where he was attached to 102 MU RAF Middle East Command. On 5 April 1941 he left by Service transport for 39 Squadron.
