On an operational training flight on 27 February 1942 Anson DG841 was believed to have crashed into the sea about 25 miles south of the Isle of Man. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it did not return to base. In 1949 it was recorded that the missing crew members had lost their lives at sea.
