At Livingstone Airstrip at 1645 hours on 23 November 1943, Spitfire BS 300 (Pilot Flying Officer Arthur John Gould (404062) (Pilot)) ran off the runway on take-off and struck a vehicle parked near the runway, killing the occupants, Flying Officer Charles Henry Bell (118432) and Leading Aircraftman Eric Harvey McCarthy (80427).
