At 1853 hours on the night of 15 March 1944 Stirling EJ124 took off from Lakenheath detailed to bomb Amiens, France. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft crashed 2 kms south west of Boves (Somme), and 10 kms south east of Amiens, France. All the crew members were killed.
