On 1 April 1944, Leading Aircraftman Mansbridge, a Fitter II Engines, was killed in a collision between a motor cycle and a car on Grand Road, Moorooka, Queensland. Leading Aircraftman James Donald Howe (34179) was dangerously injured in the accident.
