On 31 May 1944, Kittyhawk FX545 flown by Flight Sergeant Mallick was one of six aircraft detailed to carry out an armed reconnaissance of Agani, Paliano, Cerrone and Piglio in the Rome area. FX545 called on the radio that his aircraft had been hit by anti-aircraft fire over the target area and that he was heading for the bomb line. The aircraft was last seen at a height of 3,000 feet.
