At 1000 hours on 6 June 1945, Boomerang A46-7 flown by Flying Officer MacIver crashed at Parkes when the aircraft struck the ground during a gunnery training exercise and he was killed. He had been authorised to carry out strafing attacks on dispersed camouflaged target on the No. 8 OTU Gunnery Range. One witness stated that he had attempted a stall turn at 1,000 feet and the aircraft stalled at the top of its turn and that there was insufficient height for a recovery from the dive and the aircraft crashed.
