On 24 October 1945, Leading Aircraftman Lunn, a General Hand, asked Leading Aircraftman Francis Barry Ragen (162957) (Discharged: 9 September 1946) for assistance in moving a table in his tent. Leading Aircraftman Ragen went into the tent and proceeded to assist in moving the table. Noticing a rifle lying against the table, Leading Aircraftman Ragen said “just a minute” and picked up the rifle. While doing so, the butt of the rifle hit the table, the weapon discharged and a bullet struck Leading Aircraftman Lunn in the right chest. A Medical Officer was called immediately, but Leading Aircraftman Lunn died of his injuries.
