On 12 May 1918, Second Lieutenant Lord was killed in the crash of RE8 aircraft E.62 at Worthy Down, near Winchester. The crash was not witnessed and the Court of Enquiry found, that, owing to a lack of sufficient evidence and the fact that the machine was in such a wrecked condition, as to make it impossible for any defect to be traced, cannot give a verdict warranting the statement of any cause of this accident and the Pilot, Second Lieutenant Lord, therefore declares and open verdict accordingly.
