On the night of 7 June 1944 Beaufighter MM906 was engaged in night intruder operations over Rhodes and Cosocos. The aircraft failed to return to base from the mission. The last position recorded was 32.48N 29.29E at 1908 hours when the aircraft was over the Mediterranean Sea north of Alexandria, and the plane was due back at 2330 hours. Another aircraft on the same mission sighted what he reported to be an aircraft burning on the ground on Kos Island with a number of vehicles in the vicinity. It was thought that this was probably the missing aircraft MM906.
