At 2356 hours on the night of 19/20 February 1944, Halifax JD271 took off from Middleton St George detailed to bomb Leipzig, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft crashed in the Ljsselmeer off Andjik, Netherlands, and all the crew were killed.
