At 1832 hours on the night of 28 January 1944 Stirling EF443 took off from Tuddenham to carry out a mine laying operation in Kiel Bay, Germany. Nothing further was heard of the aircraft or crew after take-off. In 1948 there being no trace of the aircraft or crew it was concluded the crew were lost at sea.
