On the night of 12 June 1944, Lancaster LL812 took off from Mildenhall at 2300 hours detailed to bomb Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft was shot down by a night fighter and exploded in the west of Oirschot (Noord-Brabant), some 13kms south west from the centre of Eindhoven. All the crew members were killed.
