On 29 May 1942, Leading Aircraftman Leaman, a Guard, was a passenger to Flinders Island on an Australian National Airways DH89 Rapide (Marika). The aircraft crashed into the sea near the island as a result of the failure of one engine and all on board were killed. On board were:
