On 26 November 1941 Hurricane Z2355 was one of a formation of 3 aircraft detailed to carry out a Wing sweep in the vicinity of Tobruk. The formation was engaged by enemy aircraft near Fort Maddalena, south of Tobruk, and Z2355 failed to return to base from the mission. Following post war enquiries and investigations it was recorded in 1949 that Sergeant Knappett had no known grave.
