On 29 April 1944, a Canta Z.506 aircraft carrying medical supplies and code books exploded in mid-air and crashed off Fredonia, Italy. The Italian crew of five and two passengers, Flight Lieutenant Kissner MID (Administrative & Special Duties Branch) and Wing Commander Richard Malherbe Outfin MID (23296) (RAF), were killed.
