On 29 February 1944 Leading Aircraftman Kirk (70686) was killed in a road accident 15 kms from Cunderdin while off duty. The service vehicle is believed to have been driven by Flying Officer Albert Beauvais Donohoe (413747) who was also killed in the accident. There were two Army members also travelling in the vehicle – Captain Arthur Francis Porter (SX9102) (Air Liaison Officer) and Driver Frederick John Loveless (WX27756) – neither of whom became casualties.
