Lancaster LM422 took off from RAF Bardney at 1913 hours on the night of 22/23rd March 1944 to bomb Frankfurt, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take off and it failed to return to base. It was later established that the aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft fire and crashed on 22/March at the village of Morscheld, which is 50 kms east of Trier and all the crew members were killed.
