During a photographic reconnaissance mission on 9 July 1916, Lieutenant Jowett (Pilot) and Corporal R Johnstone RFC (2465) (Photographer), flying BE2c aircraft 5765, were shot down. The aircraft went into a nose-dive and crashed near Miraumont. Corporal Johnstone survived the action.
