On 9 November 1943 Stirling LK380 was detailed to carry a fighter affiliation with a Hurricane aircraft KW800. At 1135 hours near Shippea Hill Station about 20 miles north east of Cambridge, KW800 came in too close during an attack and collided with LK380. LK380 crashed and was buried in boggy ground. KW800’s pilot, Flight Sergeant Brown (RAF) baled out and was injured. All the crew members on board LK380 were killed and the unidentified remains of only four members were recovered.
