On the night of 23 April 1942 Whitley Z9363 took off from Leeming detailed to bomb Rostock, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. A later report by a Missing Research and Enquiry team states “the aircraft was shot down at 0111 hours on the morning of 24 April 1942. It crashed at Grevenkrug 4 kms north north west of Bordesholm and 12kms north north east of Neumunster, Germany.” All the crew members were killed.
