At 1630 hours on the night of 20 January 1944, Lancaster R5483 took off from Mildenhall detailed to bomb Berlin. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. At 1945 hours the aircraft crashed at Berlin and all the crew members were killed.
