Lancaster ED858 of No. 156 Squadron took off from RAF Station Warboys at 2319 hours on 24 June 1943 to carry out a bombing attack on Wupertal, Germany. After take off, nothing further was heard from the aircraft which did not return to base. In a 1946 report, it was stated that ED 858 was shot down at 0125 hours local time on 25 June, 1943 at Spiel, near Titz.
