On 6 June 1943, Leading Aircraftman Horsnaill, a Mess Steward, was very ill with peritonitis. He was admitted to the Bairnsdale District Hospital. On 29 June, he was transferred to No. 6 RAAF hospital diagnosed as critically ill and he died at 0010 hours on 24 February 1944.
