Wellington MP 627 of No. 38 Squadron took off from Gambut at 0020 hours on 26 July, 1943 on an operational shipping reconnaissance in the Aegean Sea. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take off and it did not return to Berka 111. Following post war enquiries and investigations, it was recorded in 1948 that the missing crew members had lost their lives at sea.
