On 7 March 1942, Kittyhawk A29-1 flown by Pilot Officer Holliday being ferried from Bankstown to Townsville crashed six miles north north-west of Kempsey and Pilot Officer Holliday was killed. On this flight Pilot Officer Holliday had circled the crash of Kittyhawk A29-3, also on a transit flight to Townsville that had crashed at Wauchope killing Pilot Officer James William Norton (411713).
