Brother of Leading Aircraftman William Hoffman (75945)

On 21 April 1944 an explosion occurred at the Mobile Oxygen Plant which was being operated at No. 4 Repair and Salvage Unit (RSU) by the detachment from No 14 Aircraft Depot when an oxygen bottle burst. LAC Herbert Charles Hoffman (76459) was killed instantly. Flying Officer Frederick William Miller (17364) was injured and died shortly after being admitted to No 1 Medical Receiving Station. Their funerals took place at 1800 hours that day in the presence of the Commanding Officer 4 RSU and a large number of personnel from the unit. The deceased were buried in the Adelaide River War Graves Cemetery.
