On 6 January, 1944, Sergeant Henkel, a Fitter Driver Motor Transport, died of second degree bums about the abdomen, right leg, arm and right hand. He was admitted to Hospital and died on the 8 January 1944.  He was required to service daily the lighting plant, pumping plant and refrigeration in the camp area. He lit a cigarette, threw the match down and it fell into a can of petrol which ignited.
