On 19 November 1940, Squadron Leader Heath in Gladiator N5750 was leading 3 Gladiators as escort to one Gladiator on a tactical reconnaissance. Over the battle front the formation encountered 17 Italian CR42B fighter aircraft and in the ensuing dogfight, N5750 was shot down near Mersa Matruh at about 1410 hours. Four CR42Bs were shot down in the engagement.
