At 1720 hours on the night of 22 October 1943 Halifax LW259 took off from Lissett detailed to bomb Kassel, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft was shot down by anti-aircraft fire and crashed at 1950 hours at Goudswaard (Zuid) Holland which is 16 kms south west of Rotterdam. All the crew members were killed.
