On 31 July 1942, Leading Aircraftman Hamilton and Leading Aircraftman Ernest Henry Benjamin Saker (425224) (killed in an aircraft accident on 22 July 1943), Trainee Wireless Air Gunners, were both struck by a motor truck as they were returning to the RAAF Station from Maryborough. Leading Aircraftman Hamilton was killed and Leading Aircraftman Saker seriously injured.
