On 3 November 1944, Sergeant Hamilton, a Works Supervisor, was one of a group of four fishing and shell collecting on a reef on the north shore at Noemfoor Island. Sergeant Hamilton was swept off the reef and carried out to sea. He was seen to be in difficulties and later seen floating in the water. Searches could not locate his body and he has no known grave.
