While on a dive bombing mission at Babo on 23 August 1944, Flight Sergeant Guster in A29-568 was hit by anti-aircraft fire and glycol engine coolant was seen streaming from his aircraft. The aircraft was observed to climb away, roll over and crash into the sea without any indication of the pilot attempting to escape.

In 1947 a RAAF party search concluded that the aircraft sank in deep water and was unrecoverable.
