On 15 August 1945, at about 1630 hours, a Mr Gemmel was riding a horse in Harfleur Street, towards the town of Deniliquin, when at the comer of Harfleur and Hughes Streets, he stopped to talk to Flight Sergeant Green. After a conversation, Mr Gemmel took his left foot out of the strirup, and Flight Sergeant Green put his left foot in the stirrup, and got on the horse behind Mr Gemmel. Immediately he got on the horse, the horse plunged forward suddenly. Flight Sergeant Green had his arms around Mr Gemmel’s waist, and the sudden movement caused Green to lose balance and fall to the roadway. He was knocked unconscious and bleeding from the nose and ear. Flight Sergeant Green was placed in a car and taken to hospital. He died on the 16 August from his injuries of concussion and a fractured skull.
