At 2238 hours on the night of 24 May 1944 Halifax MZ622 took off from Holme-on-Spalding Moor detailed to bomb Aachen, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take-off and it failed to return to base. The aircraft crashed at Goirle (Noord-Brabant), 4 kms south of Tilburg, Holland. Six of the crew members were killed and one was taken prisoner.
